Hello All,
Well the third term of our school year has come and gone and what a term it has been.
I spoke to the school on Monday afternoon and asked everyone to reflect on our achievements over the term. As parents would know, our school has introduced the Australian School Standards and they are now the principles by which we operate. So I asked our children to question themselves about how they had gone this term with respect to, among other things
-
Being Honest
-
Being Trustworthy
-
Giving and getting a Fair Go
-
Being Reliable
-
Displaying Leadership by helping others
-
Demonstrating Compassion
-
Demonstrating Tolerance and Sharing
-
Working hard at our Numeracy and Literacy
and we believe our children have done an outstanding job. Parents would be interested to know that our school deals with very little disruption and we all enjoy a happy and peaceful environment.
Recently, our school received the results of our NAPLAN tests conducted earlier in the year and I will release the results to parents as soon as the reports are in our school. Much of our data looks very promising and I would remind parents that sometimes comparisons with the State or Nation don’t always tell the full story. I might add that we compare very favourably in many of the test areas. It is important also to look at the distance travelled over time: how our children from year to year have improved their school results and for our school this is quite pleasing. Anyway, parents will have the opportunity soon to discuss their child’s reports with their own children at home.
The mighty Healy Hurricanes have recently conducted trials for our Sporting teams next term with Basketball and 2 Futsal teams already selected and in training. For those like me who didn’t know, Futsal is indoor Soccer so I urge all in our community to get behind our teams and support them in the competitions ahead.
I would like to let parents know that I am available anytime through the school office to discuss any concerns. As a Principal I am keenly interested in anything parents might have to say and I want to assure parents that any concern they may have will be treated with the utmost confidence and respect. Discussions will always be targeted at solutions and unless I know I cannot help with the solution.
In closing, I wish all in our Community a happy and safe holiday with family and friends and look forward to seeing everyone in the new term.
By the way, school starts immediately on Monday, October 5: No Pupil Free day.
Regards,
Bryon Burke
